Onda = oscillation, radiation, charisma, wave
The first Austria-wide Latin America Festival is offering a varied cultural programme aimed at portraying social realities and nuances of everyday life in Latin America and the Caribbean to a wide audience. Onda latina is approaching these themes from an artistic angle and hopes to generate interest and discussion. Austrian development cooperation projects in several countries of Latin America are also presented.
The festival is being organised in connection with the summit meeting of Heads of State and Government from Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union on 12 May 2006 in Vienna. Onda latina is not meant as a flanking programme for a big political event, however, but rather as an initiative to raise awareness in Austria in the long term.
The wide diversity of cultural expression is reflected in the programme of music, fine arts, literature, science, education, and culture for children and young people. Over 150 events will be held in Austria in spring 2006.
This network festival has been made possible through the financial support of Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), the Federal Chancellery/arts section, the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture, the city of Vienna culture department and the Vienna labour market service.
