Information on the meeting

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the Technical University of Vienna announce the international conference “Towards the City Surface of Tomorrow, taking place on June 8-9, 2006 in Vienna.

The goal of this conference is to assess diffuse emissions from city surfaces and to discuss means to reduce substance flows from such surfaces by new approaches and materials.

Topics:

1. Assessments of sources, flows and sinks of diffuse emissions from urban systems, in particular buildings and infrastructure networks.
2. Identification of values and driving forces that control stakeholders’ choices of surface coatings and building material trends.
3. Means to reduce emission flows from surfaces by new concepts and materials. Special emphasis is laid on an integrated and systemic approach, looking at the city as a comprehensive urban system.

The conference is directed towards architects, construction engineers, experts in the field of urban and regional planning, wastewater management, corrosion and material science, authorities for setting political agendas and standards, environmental protection officials and academia engaged in methods to assess complex urban systems.
