“Research and technology development holds the key to prosperity and economic growth. Therefore, it is particularly important to progress together as one at European level and promote particularly attractive areas”, said the State Secretary for Research Eduard Mainoni at the end of the two-day high-level conference on Information and Communication Technology held in Vienna’s Museum Quarter.
Over 150 high-ranking political decision-makers, as well as leading international representatives from industry and research, discussed specific measures to boost European innovativeness within the ICT sector. “In future, we must invest more in this area in order to become even more competitive. Improved communication between decision-makers and networking of the individual national initiatives will enable us to achieve this aim”, stated Mainoni confidently. He also underlined the importance of the European technology platforms, which perform necessary capacity-building work and must be further developed.
A monitoring system accessible to the public has been planned in order to record developments as accurately as possible and coordinate future projects more efficiently. “This conference was the first important step towards achieving greater interplay in ICT research at European level – a fantastic result for Austria and the first European conference on this topic”, said Mainoni.
