Vienna (OTS) – Council President Wolfgang Schüssel today received Ernest-Antoine Seillière, the President of UNICE, the union of European employers’ confederations, Philippe de Buck, UNICE Secretary-General, Veit Sorger, President of the Industrial Association (IV) and Vice-President of UNICE, and Markus Beyrer, IV Secretary General, for talks in the Federal Chancellery.
“Growth and employment in Europe will be a top priority of the Austrian Presidency. To that end, we intend to devote particular attention to improving the general conditions for small and medium-sized businesses. Other priorities are research and the energy sector”, Schüssel said. “I think it is both important and makes sense to involve the European social partners more closely than before in the European agenda and I have invited UNICE President Seillière to contribute actively to these specific projects.”
The European social partner’s proposals and results will be discussed at the upcoming social partners’ summit in the run-up to the March European Council.
