Foreign Minister Plassnik in Paris

Exchange of views on future of Europe debate

Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik met the French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and the Europe Minister Catherine Colonna today for talks in Paris. In addition to the latest developments on the international stage, these talks centred on the debate on the future of Europe. "Today in Paris I am beginning the listening and exploratory process. I intend to involve all our partners in this process and to collect their ideas, expectations and sensitivities regarding Europe’s future. Our aim is to draw up a joint choreography on the constitutional process at the end of these six months", Plassnik said.

The Minister, who will be travelling on to The Hague tomorrow, said that all the Member States had worked on the draft constitution. “We must now also consider the next steps together. A joint effort is needed to get the debate on the future of Europe going again. France as well as the Netherlands will be important partners for the Austrian Presidency in this endeavour".
