At last week’s informal meeting of EU Competitiveness Ministers in Graz, clusters and technology transfer were singled out as a key component of Europe’s response to the challenges of globalisation. Experts from all the EU countries will be coming to Vienna next week to discuss European technology platforms and the potential for developing them further. On 4 and 5 May, the Federal Ministry for Economics and Labour, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency and the European Commission are hosting a Presidency conference on European technology platforms in the Austria Center.
Existing European technology platforms will be presented during these two days on the basis that more research and development is essential to success in the competitive global marketplace and greater and more intensive cooperation between companies and research institutions is the most efficient way of getting there. Following an exchange of experience and the presentation of examples, ways are to be found of involving other companies and organisations in existing platforms or of bringing them together in new ones.
The entire conference is open to the media. Succinct information on the conference aims will be provided at a press conference with Martin Bartenstein, Federal Minister for Economics and Labour, Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research and Vittorio Prodi, MEP. Please note:
Date, time: Thursday, 4 May 2006, 10.30
Place Austria Center, 1220 Vienna
The entire conference and the press conference will be conducted in English. The detailed conference programme is available on the Internet at http://www.eu2006-technologyplatforms.at.
